How to Find a Licensed Drone Pilot in Your Area

The fastest way to find a licensed local drone pilot is to search for one with reviews and a portfolio, then verify their FAA Part 107 certificate before you book. A local operator saves you travel fees and usually knows the area’s airspace rules already.

Where to look

Google and Google Maps. Search “drone photography near me” or “drone videographer [your city].” Look for businesses with recent reviews and real project photos.
Referrals. Real estate agents, builders, and event planners often have a trusted drone pilot they use regularly.
Local photography and videography studios. Many offer aerial work in-house or partner with a pilot.
Industry directories and marketplaces. These list pilots by location and specialty, though quality varies.
Social media. Instagram and YouTube are great for seeing a pilot’s actual footage before you reach out.

How to verify they’re licensed

Ask for their Part 107 certificate number.
Check it with the FAA’s Airmen Inquiry search using their name.
Confirm their certificate is current (pilots must complete recurrent training every 24 months).
Ask for a certificate of liability insurance.

Why local matters

A nearby pilot can reschedule quickly when weather changes, which happens often with drone work. They’re also familiar with nearby airports, restricted zones, and parks or municipalities with their own drone rules. And they typically include your location in their base price instead of charging travel.

Questions to ask a local pilot

Have you flown in this neighborhood or near this site before?
Is my location in controlled airspace, and how will you handle authorization?
How quickly can you reschedule if weather cancels the shoot?
What’s your standard service radius?
